The University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council President Martin Boakye Gyasi has revealed plans by the UGSRC to organize a week-long celebration of the 65th SRC anniversary.

Martin Gyasi made this statement in his message on the state of the SRC to the General Assembly.

According to him, the event will be an avenue to attract investors to support the undertaking of projects in the school. He also added that the event will serve as a form of legacy celebration for the SRC’s duration for 65 years.

“Mr. Speaker, I began my speech by reminding the house that the SRC has been in existence for the past 65 years yet have no legacy that can be solely attributed to it. In light of this, the administration has deemed it fit to organize a week-long celebration of the 65th SRC anniversary. We are of the view that this event will gain enough traction to attract investors to help us undertake five projects on main campus, four in diaspora and one in city campus. We strongly believe that these projects would benefit the students and enable the university to achieve its goals.”

He further added that an ad-hoc committee will be created to supervise the planning and completion of the projects. He also mentioned that events that would be part of the celebrations will include a logo competition, a business pitch competition and an HR clinic among others. He went on to ask for the support of the Parliament House in making the celebrations a success.

“The administration also saw it fit to create an ad-hoc committee that would mainly be in charge of planning the events and seeing the completion of the projects. This committee would work closely with Programs and Projects Committee and Sponsorship Committee respectively in order to share the workload of these committees and enable them achieve their goals for the academic year. The proposal for this committee has been submitted to the house. The events for the anniversary would include a logo competition, a business pitch competition, an HR clinic among others. We ask for the support of the entire house to make this a success.”
