Ghana has been drawn in Group A for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, alongside Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Tanzania and one team from the UNIFFAC qualifiers (The Central African Football Federations’ Union). The identity of the team from the UNIFFAC Zone remains uncertain due to Congo’s current suspension by FIFA.

The draw was conducted on Thursday, 13 February 2025, at CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

Ghana’s U-20 team, the Black Satellites boast an impressive record in the tournament, having clinched the title four times: in 1993, 1999, 2009, and 2021. Their most notable achievement came in 2009 when they made history as the first and only African team to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup

Group B is headlined by African giants Nigeria, joined by North African duo Morocco and Egypt, as well as South Africa. Meanwhile, Group C will see Senegal, Kenya, Zambia, and Sierra Leone battle it out.

The 18th edition of the Biennial Youth Football Championship is scheduled to take place in Côte d’Ivoire from April 26 to May 16, 2025. The top two teams from each group, plus the two best third-place finishers, will advance to the quarterfinals. The tournament’s semifinalist will book the automatic qualification spots for the FIFA U-20 World Cup slated for September later this year in Chile.
