Former Arsenal midfielder and Black Stars international Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
According to the London Metropolitan Police, the offences took place between 2021 and 2022.
The charges concern three women: one alleges two counts of rape, another is linked to three counts of rape, and the third is associated with one count of sexual assault.
The charges stem from an investigation launched by detectives in February 2022, after police initially received a report of rape.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, told the BBC: “Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward.
“We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team. You can contact detectives about this investigation by emailing CIT@met.police.uk.”
The 32-year-old is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5.
Partey’s contract with Arsenal ended on Monday, June 30, after playing with the Gunners since 2020. He is currently a free agent.
