The Teachers and Educational Workers Union of the Trade Union Congress (TEWU-TUC) has intensified its industrial action over poor conditions of service, directing members to stay home until government addresses their demands.

On Friday, September 19, 2025, the union withdrew its services across all technical and public universities, the Ghana Library Authority, and the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, accusing government of failing to resolve long-standing concerns of non-teaching staff despite exhausting all laid-down procedures.

Speaking at an emergency meeting with members at the University of Ghana on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, TEWU-TUC Chairperson, Salamatu Braimah, said the strike will continue until their demands are met.

“TEWU will only suspend this strike when the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission receives the appropriate mandate from the Ministry of Finance and other government employers for us to continue and conclude our negotiations,” she stated.

She stressed that the union expects all outstanding issues to be formally resolved.

“All conditions of service must be finalised and signed by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission before we suspend the strike,” she said.

Braimah urged members to remain firm, saying, “Until then, brothers and sisters in the union, you are to sit at home, stay at home, because we all know that it is the conditions of service that guide our operations. We cannot continue to operate under expired conditions of service from 2008 to date. Enough is enough.”
