A second-year student from the Christian Service University in Kumasi, Ghana was allegedly assaulted by supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) party.
The incident occurred during a public lecture organized to mark the school’s 50th anniversary, where former President and 2024 NDC flagbearer, John Mahama, was speaking.
The victim, Nana Boakye, who is said to be an organizer of the NPP’s student wing, TESCON, reportedly expressed displeasure with Mahama’s criticism of his NPP opponent, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign. This did not sit well with some NDC supporters, and Nana Boakye was allegedly slapped and beaten, sustaining a head injury and a sore arm.
Narrating the story, the victim explained that he was threatened by NDC supporters after his expression. Having questioned the perpetrator’s threats, he was later slapped and dragged out of the lecture hall, where he was severely beaten.
The NPP in the Ashanti Region has expressed disappointment over the incident, and the victim has yet to file a formal complaint with the police.
