Former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, has emphasized the need to give local players a chance to represent Ghana in the national team.

Appiah stressed that homegrown talent can revive the Black Stars and bring success to Ghanaian football.

“I think we have to give the local players the chance and confidence to play for the national team.In our time there were certain players who looked as if they were key players in the team,we were not key players. We had players like William Tiero and the rest who were pushing us so we had to make sure that we’re not going to allow them to take our positions.
For example when we went to the 2006 World Cup, Osei Kuffuor was a top defender after the game against Italy, the second game against Czech Republic, it was Shilla Illiasu who was playing for Kotoko, he came in and he stamped the position , brilliant player , you have Habib Mohammed who took addoquaye pappoe ‘s position “

As the football community looks to the future ,one thing is certain ,empowering local talents holds the key to unlocking Ghana’s true potential.
