The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) is set to finalise negotiations on conditions of service with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission by the end of the month.
This follows the suspension of their recent strike, which was triggered by the government’s failure to fulfil certain financial commitments to the association’s members.
Speaking to Univers News, the National Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), George Ansong, acknowledged that while the strike delayed the negotiation process, the suspension has allowed talks to resume.
He stated that the final phase of the discussions is to be completed soon.
“We expect that by the close of this month, we should finish the negotiation. The strike was a hindrance to them inviting us to conclude.”
In addition to the ongoing negotiations, George Ansong highlighted the migration of the University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UNIMAC) staff onto the university’s salary structure.
He called on university authorities to expedite the process, noting that their cooperation is crucial for completing the migration.
“I am fully aware of meetings that have gone on and now it is left with the university itself to do their part so that they are enrolled onto the university space structure. I am expecting the Vice-Chancellor and his people to finish their part so that the process can be hastened for them to be enrolled.”
