South Africa has issued a visa waiver agreement regime with the Republic of Ghana, which commenced on 2nd November, 2023.
The visa waiver agreement allows Ghanaian citizens with ordinary passports to make visa-free entries to South Africa with a much easier travelling experience for tourism, within a span of 90 days.
However, they are exempted from studying, working above the required number of days or changing their visa status during this period until they apply for the specific visa permits respectively.
In a media engagement, Deputy South African High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Thando Dalamba stated that a yellow fever certificate and a valid air ticket is required for the viability of the program and urged all Ghanaian citizens interested to avoid over staying their trip to prevent them from facing the consequences.
“I would like to urge Ghanaians that they should have their yellow fever certificate. The yellow fever certification must be ready by [the time citizens are ready to travel]; they must avoid staying over the stipulated time of their visas because this will have some serious consequences.”
Mr. Dalamba added that the waiver came as a relief for his country to also allow invited Ghanaian artistes to perform early in South Africa for musical concerts.
“I think this waiver has come to us as a relief because this would reduce the challenges some artistes face when having their musical concerts. It will make things easier in terms of the movement of our people as well.”
