The Central Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service has arrested six students of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School in connection with the alleged assault of a final-year student of Adisadel College.

In a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Central Regional Police Command on February 24, 2026, the incident reportedly occurred on Friday, February 20, 2026, following the inter-college sports festival held at the Cape Coast Stadium. The victim, Rexford Owusu-Ansah, was allegedly confronted and assaulted by some Aggrey Memorial students.

“Initial police enquiry revealed that on the final day of the inter-college sports festival at the Cape Coast Stadium on Friday, February 20, 2026, the victim was leaving the stadium with two of his friends when the Aggrey Memorial students asked if they attended Adisadel College and then attacked them immediately,” the statement read.

In addition to being physically assaulted, Rexford Owusu-Ansah reportedly lost his mobile phone, an amount of GH₵1,400, and his shoes during the attack.

“His two friends managed to escape, but unfortunately, he was caught, kicked to the ground, and beaten mercilessly. They took his iPhone 17 Pro Max, his pocket money of about GH₵1,400, and his shoes,” the statement added.

The press release further stated that medical tests conducted at the Cape Coast Regional Hospital revealed that the victim sustained a fracture to the nerve bone of his right eye and severe injury to his eyeball, leaving him unable to open the eye.

“The police medical form, endorsed by a medical doctor, showed a fractured nerve bone in his right eye. He cannot open it, and the eyeball appears to be dislodged,” the statement said.

The Central Regional Police Command strongly condemned the violent act and assured the public that due process would be followed, adding that the suspects would face the full rigours of the law.
