Former Member of Parliament for Jomoro, who contested on the ticket of the Convention People’s Party, Samia Yaaba Nkrumah, has announced her decision to contest the parliamentary election as an independent candidate.
The daughter of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, averred that running as an independent candidate means putting Ghana first and fighting the extreme partisanship that has not delivered to our people.
In an interaction with the media on her detachment from the CPP, Madam Nkrumah said the independent approach is a new way of doing politics where the individual is ready to work with others to make sure good things happen for your people.
The former legislator is not proper for us to be extremely partisan, but it is important to build consensus for national development.
‘’I don’t want us to be extremely partisan. I want us to build consensus. I am looking for the way forward in the future. I don’t think the future lies with being so entrenched in one party or another.’’
According to her, her desire is to aspire to a better future for Ghana with a major focus on moving beyond partisan politics.
Madam Samia Nkrumah further posited that currently, there are followers of Kwame Nkrumah from every political party, and so the values and principles we can learn from Nkrumahism have gone way beyond partisan politics. So why are we boxing ourselves in groups?
‘’Ghana needs to unite. And how can we unite without people sacrificing and going beyond the system? The two-party (NDC and NPP) system has not worked, if you want to be honest.’’
