Fast-rising Ghanaian singer Kelalie, currently signed to Crux Global, is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about voices on the scene. However, his journey into music began way back in high school.

In an exclusive conversation with Kvng Kelly on At The DJ’s Mercy on August 29, 2025, he revealed that his music journey began back in high school.

“It all started back in high school at Akosombo International. That was where I really started honing my craft for music, especially live performances and sharpening my vocal range and tone. Along the line, writing also came around. I started with covers of songs. I even did a whole gospel cover of Burna Boy’s Ye, which I performed back in school.”

Kelalie revealed that music was at the centre of his high school life, from leading praise and worship on Sundays to thrilling audiences at entertainment shows on Saturdays. “My life in high school was really, really music — that’s what I was known for.”

Interestingly, the singer also dabbled in rap during those years, something he says helped sharpen his pen game.

“I started rapping, actually, just to get better at my writing. Maybe along the line, when you hear one or two songs I’ll put out, you’ll see the rap is still there. Being a vocalist at heart, I just thought, if I can write lyrics and have the voice to back it, why don’t I go all in?”

From inspiration to signing with Crux Global

Kelalie grew up inspired by artists like Rema and Oxlade, mimicking their style while developing his own unique sound. That determination paid off when he got scouted by Crux Global during a writing camp last year, following the label’s collaboration with Sony Music West Africa.

“Fortunately for me, I had already started music independently and even released Gidigidi. I think the A&R team scouted me and sent me an invite,” he recounted. “In fact, a lot of grace, and I have to give big ups to God for that. I went in there with a mission: to grow, to network, and to level up. Thankfully, I made some amazing music which actually featured on the New Gen Wave EP.”

The birth of Love Doctor

Kelalie also opened up about the inspiration behind his buzzing new single, Love Doctor.

“This song, I wrote it last year. Ashbel had sent me a ton of beats to go through, and when I heard this particular one, I was like, ‘Yo, this beat is hot.’ I started freestyling on it, and the first thing that came to me was the chorus. From there, I went back to Afrolectra’s studio, big shoutouts to him and recorded it. This was actually the very first song I recorded myself, so it’s a special one.”

The single has been steadily making waves across streaming platforms and social media, cementing Kelalie as one of the fresh new voices to watch.

What’s next?

Looking ahead, Kelalie teased fans with an upcoming EP titled “Lover Boy”, which he says will showcase a more soulful, romantic side of his artistry. He also hinted at an exciting collaboration with UK-based Ghanaian artist Eugy Official on the project.
