The University of Ghana’s campus-based Radio Univers has organised a send-off dinner in honour of its level 400 newsroom volunteers who have completed their undergraduate studies.

The event, held at the Volta Hall Dining Hall on Monday, September 15, 2025, brought together university management, staff, newsroom volunteers (student journalists), and alumni to celebrate the contributions of the outgoing team.

Addressing the gathering, Station Officer of Radio Univers, Albert Benefo Buabeng, praised the dedication and selflessness of the departing volunteers.

“This evening, therefore, is not just about certificates; it is about celebrating journeys. It is about recognizing the sacrifices, the late nights, the hard work, and the countless moments of brilliance that our outgoing volunteers have given to this station. It is also about reaffirming our bond as a community that continues to support, inspire, and uplift one another — no matter where life takes us.

“So, as we move through tonight’s program, let us celebrate with pride, applaud with gratitude, and send off our volunteers with the confidence that their stories here will remain part of the bigger story of Radio Univers,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the graduating cohort, News Editor, Esther Esenam Ofori, expressed gratitude for the skills and mentorship they received, while encouraging continuing volunteers to uphold the station’s standards.

“You showed us how to serve with passion, professionalism, and commitment. To our colleagues who will continue the work after us, we say: keep the fire burning, tell the stories that matter, and uphold the standard of excellence that makes Radio Univers what it is.

“And to my graduating peers, congratulations — we made it. Though many could not, we have reached this moment. As we step into new chapters, we will always remain part of this family. Cheers to growth, memories, and the future that awaits us all,” she said.

The ceremony was well attended by key members of the university community, including Prof. Abena Animwaa Yeboah-Banin, Chairperson of the University Media Management Committee and Dean of the School of Information and Communication Studies; Dr. Abubukari Sidick Ahmed, former Station Officer of Radio Univers; Dr. Kwaku Botwe, General Manager of Radio Univers; and Dr. Austin Luguterah, Director of the Sports and Wellness Directorate. Pamela Korsah of the Public Affairs Directorate was also present.

Other notable guests included Radio Univers alumni such as Giovanni Caleb and Joseph Kofi Frimpong Ackah-Blay of TV3, and Abdul Karim Ibrahim, formerly of Class FM and now Regional Coordinator of the Africa Unite Parliamentary Network for Global Health.

As the curtains closed on their chapter at Radio Univers with cheers, applause, and a toast to the future, the voices of the graduating volunteers may no longer fill the daily bulletins, but their impact will continue to echo in the newsroom for years to come.
