Ghanaian road racing cyclist Prince Kudufia has emerged as the winner of the 4th edition of the Prudential ride Cycling Competition which was held at the independence square on September 10, 2023.
The event was held by Prudential Life Insurance Ghana in collaboration with the Ghana Cycling Federation and was inspired by Prudential Ride London, the biggest annual cycling festival in the world. The event is sponsored by parent company Prudential PLC UK and designed as an annual legacy from the London 2012 Olympic Games. Cyclists from all over Africa came together to compete in both Professional and Amateur Division to win the ultimate.
22 year-old cyclist, Prince Kudufia beat the likes of Nuru Paddy, Prince Tetteh and last season’s winner Lawrence Adjei in a 17.5 Km race to win the men’s Professional category.
The Ghanaian pocketed a medal, a trophy and a cash price of 15,000 Ghana cedis. Other winners of the race included Nigeria’s Patience and Efe, where both were champions in the female professional category. They were rewarded with a prize sum of 10,000 and 5,000 Ghana cedis each as they placed first and second respectively.
Emmanuel Semakor emerged as winner of the Amateur category while 67 year old Ezekial Titus made history as the oldest cyclist to competent in this year’s event.
Chairman of the Local Organising Community (LOC) for the 13th African Games (Dr. Kwaku Ofosu) advised cyclists to start preparations towards the All African Games to be held in Ghana next year.
