Following a successful appeal, Paul Pogba’s four-year ban has been cut to 18 months, paving the way for his imminent comeback.
Paul Pogba who was handed a four-year ban by Italy’s National Anti-Doping Tribunal (TNA) after testing positive for DHEA in August has had a swift comeback as his four year banned has been reduced to 18 months , a significant decrease from the standard four-year penalty.
The ban started from August 2023 and was expected to last until August 2027. However, in a new development, the Juventus midfielder is now expected to return to football by March 2025 after a successful appeal.
According to the Daily Mail, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that Paul Pogba unintentionally ingested DHEA, a testosterone-boosting substance prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
However, CAS ruling clarifies that DHEA’s benefits are exclusively relevant to female physiology and has no performance-enhancing impact on males.
Paul Pogba’s appeal was heard at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) headquarters in Switzerland in late August, with the verdict being communicated to the player recently.
Following the reduced ban, Paul Pogba and Juventus are expected to agree on contract termination as he will become a free agent, while his initial €5,000 fine has been waived.
