Today, January 13, 2025, Parliament is set to kick off the vetting process for the first group of ministerial nominees put forward by President John Dramani Mahama.

The vetting will start with Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam and current Majority Leader, who has been nominated as the Minister-designate for Finance. His nomination arrives amid significant economic challenges in Ghana, such as high inflation, increasing public debt, and demands for sustainable economic reforms.

This constitutional process will be conducted by the Appointments CCommitte, which was established on January 9, 2025.

Following Dr. Forson, the committee will review the nomination of John Abdulai Jinapor for the role of Minister-designate for Energy. Jinapor, a seasoned politician and former Deputy Minister of Energy, is anticipated to tackle critical issues in Ghana’s energy sector, including unreliable power supply, renewable energy initiatives, and the sector’s debt challenges. His vetting is expected to shed light on his strategies to stabilize and transform the energy sector to support the nation’s economic growth.

Lastly, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, nominated as Attorney-General and Minister of Justice-designate, will be the final nominee to face the Appointments Committee. A respected legal practitioner and academic from Bolgatanga East, Ayine has a background as a former Deputy Attorney-General and is recognized for his expertise in constitutional law and governance. As the government’s chief legal advisor, he is expected to play a crucial role in upholding the rule of law, implementing legal reforms, and ensuring justice for all citizens of Ghana.
