The Super Falcons of Nigeria were narrowly defeated 1-0 by the South American champions Brazil in the second Group C game of the day in the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic Games in France.

Before Nigeria’s loss to Brazil, Barcelona Feminine midfielder Aitana Bonmati and Arsenal’s Mariona Caldentey scored for Spain against Japan, securing all three points and creating a wide-open competition in the group.

Nigeria representing Africa alongside Zambia in this year’s Paris Olympic Games Women’s Football tournament had a tough start to the tournament when Levante’s player Gabi Nunes scored the first Goal for the Brazilians in the 37th minute. Despite the Super Falcons’ efforts, including six attempts at goal, they were unable to find the back of the net.

The Nigeria Women’s National team required additional energy in the second half as they pressed for an equalizer. Despite dominating the game with 55% ball possession compared to Brazil’s 45%, the Super Falcons struggled to capitalize on their opportunities. They were unable to score, even after 15 attempts at goal and 5 shots on target.

After 16 years of absence from the Olympic Games, the Super Falcons of Nigeria marked their return to the Olympic Games in Paris with a 1-0 loss to Brazil. Spain and Brazil occupy the first and second spots in Group C, while Japan and Nigeria hold the third and fourth positions after Matchday 1.
