Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has named four newcomers in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Austria and Germany, while veteran forward André Ayew was notably left out of the 26-man squad.
The four players receiving their maiden call-ups are defender Derrick Luckassen, defender Patrick Pfeiffer, right-back Marvin Senaya, and forward Daniel Agyei. They form part of the squad assembled by Addo for the two important preparatory matches ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Luckassen, who currently plays for Pafos FC in Cyprus, came through the academy of AZ Alkmaar and has enjoyed a well-travelled career across Europe. The centre-back has previously featured for PSV Eindhoven, Hertha BSC, RSC Anderlecht, Kasımpaşa, Fatih Karagümrük, and Maccabi Tel Aviv. He recently helped Pafos win the 2024–25 Cypriot league title and also scored the club’s first-ever goal in the UEFA Champions League.
Senaya, meanwhile, plays for French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre. The defender began his professional career with RC Strasbourg Alsace in 2021 and has since gained experience during spells with FC Sochaux-Montbéliard and FC Lausanne-Sport.
Agyei, a versatile forward and winger, currently represents Turkish side Kocaelispor. Born in England, he previously played for Leyton Orient, Crewe Alexandra, Oxford United, and Burnley FC before making the move to Turkey.
The fourth newcomer, Patrick Pfeiffer, is a defender with German side SV Darmstadt 98.
Addo has also recalled several experienced players to the squad, including Iñaki Williams, Ibrahim Sulemana, Thomas Partey, and Alexander Djiku, as the Black Stars prepare for the two high-profile friendlies.
In goal, the squad features Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Benjamin Asare, the only Ghana Premier League representative, and Joseph Anang.
The defensive options include Pfeiffer, Luckassen, Derrick Köhn, Jerome Opoku, Caleb Yirenkyi, Kojo Oppong Pepprah, Jonas Adjetey, Senaya, Djiku, and Gideon Mensah.
The midfield department includes Partey, Elisha Owusu, Ibrahim Sulemana, and Kwasi Sibo.
In attack, Addo has selected Brandon Thomas-Asante, Jordan Ayew, Prince Adu, Christopher Bonsu Baah, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Williams, Antoine Semenyo, Kamal Deen Sulemana, and Agyei.
Ghana will first face Austria in Vienna on Friday, March 27 before travelling to Stuttgart to take on Germany on Monday, March 30.
