Radio presenter Ohemaa Woyeje has said she has developed a deliberate approach to dealing with online abuse, particularly when it involves her children, choosing to disengage rather than respond.
The broadcaster, who has two daughters, addressed the issue while reflecting on her years in the public eye during a conversation with MzGee. With a career that has spanned radio, business and entertainment, she said exposure to criticism is inevitable—but draws a firm line when it comes to minors.
Rather than monitor every comment, she limits her interaction with negativity altogether. “I hardly allow myself to see the negative things… you have to protect your sanity,” she said, explaining that actively seeking out such content only amplifies its impact.
Her stance becomes even more resolute when criticism is directed at her children. In her view, such behaviour says more about the individual behind the comment than the target.
“For anybody to insult my child, that person has pain… the person is going through a lot,” she said, suggesting that personal frustration often drives online hostility.
Instead of engaging, she opts for control—removing such voices from her space entirely. She deletes offensive comments, blocks users, and avoids creating visibility for harmful content.
“I block you… I won’t even respond,” she said, noting that responding can turn isolated remarks into broader conversations.
Her approach is shaped by perspective. Citing recognition from respected figures such as the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, along with support from audiences beyond social media, she said online insults carry little weight.
With that, Woyeje maintains her focus on raising her children away from unnecessary exposure to hostility, prioritising peace of mind over public back-and-forth.
