The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has issued a final directive to advertising agencies, corporate bodies and sign owners to immediately remove all unauthorized billboards and advertising signs installed in road medians across major corridors in the Greater Accra Region.
In a statement dated July 22, NRSA cited road safety concerns as the primary reason for the crackdown, noting that such installations pose visual and cognitive distractions to drivers and obstruct the view of both motorists and pedestrians.
The Authority said the directive follows a successful enforcement exercise in the Ayawaso West Municipality and will be extended throughout August to the following key routes:
- N1 Highway: From the Achimota Overhead to the Dzorwulu Fiesta Royale Traffic Light.
- Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Circle Stretch: From Circle to Odorkor through to the Weija intersection.
- Spintex Road: From the Action Chapel intersection to the Palace Mall.
- Kawokudi to Achimota.
“All advertising companies, their clients, and owners of signs situated in these medians are hereby directed to voluntarily remove them with immediate effect,” NRSA warned.
It added that failure to comply will result in forced removal, with the full cost of the exercise to be surcharged to non-compliant sign owners.
The Authority emphasized that the exercise is a critical part of its nationwide effort to ensure safer roads for all users.
