The parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party in the just ended Kumawu by-election, Ernest Yaw Anim has won the seat for the party .
He polled 15,264 votes representing 70.91% of the total valid votes cast to claim victory and retain the seat for the NPP.
The by-election was expected to be a closely fought battle between the contenders given the dynamics which played out in 2020 especially between the two dominant political parties ,NPP AND NDC as a result of the resources committed and also the involvement of bigwigs of the two parties just days culminating into the elections.
However, the National Democratic Congress’s candidate , Kwasi Amankwaah came a distant second with total votes of 3,727 (17.29%).
Supporters of the NPP even ahead of official announcement of collated results hit the streets from various polling centres in wild celebration, satisfied with the local results and convinced, Ernest Anim, an economist and a chartered accountant was on his way to represent them in parliament.
The two other contestants in the by-election, both named Kwaku Duah, equally did not provide much of a contest, sharing between them a paltry 2,540 votes or 11.8%.

The by-elections in Kumawu saw a heavy deployment of men and officers of the Ghana Police Service on the grounds to forestall any incidence of violence given the high stakes bequeathed to the elections by both the NPP and NDC.
The NPP has always won the seat since 2000, but the party left nothing to chance, providing opportunities for party bigwigs to tour the constituency and to whip up support for its candidate.
