Two leading aspirants in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries, Kennedy Agyapong and Dr. Bryan Acheampong, have officially submitted their nomination forms at the party’s headquarters in Accra.
The development adds momentum to what is shaping up to be a heated contest ahead of the January 31, 2026 polls. Jubilant supporters clad in branded party T-shirts, waving flags and placards, thronged the venue, singing and dancing to party songs as the processes unfolded.
Addressing the crowd after filing his papers, Mr. Agyapong stressed the importance of unity within the NPP, warning that without it, the party risked losing to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2028.
“We need to unite truly beyond words and rhetoric. The party must close ranks and marshal all its collective force before, during and after the primaries to elect a flagbearer with the political experience and clout to match the NDC boot for boot,” he said.
He also identified unemployment as Ghana’s most pressing challenge, describing it as a growing national security threat. Mr. Agyapong pointed to his decades-long record as an entrepreneur and job creator as proof of his capacity to tackle the issue.
In a related development, former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, also filed his nomination alongside his core team. Highlighting his career as a public servant, MP, businessman, and former US military officer, Dr. Acheampong said he had consistently demonstrated discipline and decisive leadership.
“I have been tested by the mantle of leadership during difficult times, and I can humbly assert that I delivered. I have not shied away from bold and tough decisions, and that is the only way we can move Ghana forward and positively impact the next generation,” he stated.
Dr. Acheampong also called for unity within the NPP, urging aspirants and their supporters to conduct the contest without rancour or divisiveness.
Meanwhile, Vice Chair of the NPP Presidential Elections Committee, Abankwah Yeboah, assured that the party remains committed to a free, fair, and transparent process as the primaries draw closer.
