Nollywood Actor, Junior Pope Odonwodo, best known as Jnr Pope, has been reported to have survived a boat mishap during filming on the Anam River in Anambra State, Nigeria, according to the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).
The guild refuted rumors circulating on Wednesday night thatthe renowned actor had passed away, as reported in various news outlets. The speculation arose earlier in the day following reports of a boat accident involving him and three others on the Anam River in Anambra State.
Initial reports suggested that the actor and his companions had tragically drowned, and their bodies were subsequently recovered. Filmmaker Samuel Olatunji had even shared the news on Instagram, lamenting the loss to Nollywood.
However, the AGN clarified on their Instagram page later that evening that Junior Pope was not deceased. They confirmed that he survived the accident and is currently receiving medical treatment in the hospital.
“Junior Pope is alive. He is taking treatment in the hospital,” the AGN said.
The erroneous reports caused a stir within the entertainment industry, but the AGN’s statement provided relief to fans and colleagues alike, reassuring them of the actor’s well-being.
Junior Pope is a Nigerian actor best known for his many works in the Nollywood scene, with his resume including classic ‘Princess Rihanna’, ‘The Stolen Fruit’, ‘Blood Affairs’ with his most recent work being TV series ‘The Suyis’.
