The National Liberation Congress (NLC) and the Ghana Alternative Party (GAP) have announced their withdrawal from the upcoming elections scheduled for December 7th.
This decision was made during an emergency meeting on September 11th, led by the founder and leader of GAP. Osahene Nana Agyei Boateng,
Initially, the alliance intended to run Stephen Atubiga as an independent candidate. However, due to the NLC not receiving its final certification from the Electoral Commission (EC) in time and the inability to register a new alliance logo, they opted to withdraw from the election.
Concerns were raised that voting for an independent candidate would be seen as a wasted vote, especially given the fierce competition between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The alliance also pointed out that a united front of independent candidates and smaller parties could have gained more traction. However, the disjointed nature of these candidates and parties has resulted in voter skepticism. In spite of their withdrawal, the NLC and GAP remain dedicated to their vision and manifesto, intending to support any party that aligns with their goals for the country’s benefit.
