General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fiifi Kwetey, has called on Ghanaian youth to take ownership of the nation’s future through a renewed mindset and deeper commitment to national development.
Speaking at a general meeting of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN), University of Ghana chapter, Kwetey emphasized that real national transformation begins with a change in values.
“I’m asking for a change of mindset. Because if you do exactly what your grandparents and parents have done, trust me—30 years from now, we’ll still be having the same conversation about Ghana rising and falling,” he said.
He challenged students to aim higher and resist mediocrity.
“I want your generation to aspire for more. I want there to be a restlessness in your souls,” he added.
Kwetey also underscored the importance of patriotism, urging students to not only love Ghana but pray for its development.
“One of the things I’m going to ask of you is simple: often remember to not just love this country, but pray for this country. The biggest problem on this continent is that we love ourselves so much and love our nations so little. And if we keep doing that, this country—this continent—is going nowhere.”
The event, held at the Confucius Institute Conference Room, brought together students and dignitaries, including Director-General of the National Service Authority Felix Gyamfi, Deputy National Youth Organizer Osman Ayariga, Ghana’s ambassador-designate to Spain Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe, and filmmaker Samira Yakubu.
