The Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA),Seth Panwum, has declared that national stadiums will now be used solely for sports events. This decision is intended to preserve the pitches and maintain their quality for sports.

The NSA chairman, mentioned that this policy will continue until pitch covers are obtained to safeguard the grass during non-sporting events.

“We’ve also directed that none of our sporting stadiums should be used for anything other than sporting activities until such time that we can have pitch covers,” Panwum told the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports.

Additionally, discussions have been held with the Ministry of Finance to explore ways to generate revenue for stadium renovations and pitch maintenance.

It is no news when we go to other countries. Even Wembley is being used for concerts, but they ensure that they protect the pitch grass.
“So as a country, we have to discuss with our Minister of Finance, through our sector minister, to see how urgently they can help.

“We are also mandated to generate revenue, and our gate proceeds are insufficient to meet that requirement,” he said during a meeting with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports.
