In a collaborative effort to promote peace and civic responsibility, the National Peace Council, in partnership with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), organized an event at the Abelenkpe Presbyterian Church in Greater Accra.
The event served as a platform to engage citizens on the importance of adhering to the rule of law, especially as Ghana approaches the much-anticipated elections on December 7.
During the program, Edem Afeeva, Director of the NCCE, delivered a compelling message emphasizing the need for collective respect for the nation’s laws.
He highlighted that while individuals may hold diverse opinions, the critical juncture in Ghana’s democratic journey calls for prioritizing legal adherence over personal biases.
“My advice is that all citizens must respect our laws, especially around this time. We need to allow the laws to reign as we head to the polls on December 7,” Afeeva remarked.
He encouraged eligible voters aged 18 and above to participate in the democratic process by casting their votes responsibly.
Afeeva stressed the importance of maintaining order at polling stations, urging citizens to leave immediately after voting and allow electoral officials to carry out their duties without interference.
“In the evening, officials assigned to count the votes will do their work. Please, we are not part of the counting. You can follow the results on radio or TV. There is no need for disorderly activities at the polling stations”
The National Peace Council and the NCCE emphasized that a stable democracy thrives on cooperation, mutual respect, and adherence to the law.
By fostering an environment of peace and understanding, they hope to ensure a smooth electoral process that upholds Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
This initiative reflects a broader commitment to civic education and the promotion of peaceful coexistence during elections, reminding citizens of their role in sustaining the democratic foundation of the nation.
