The National Coalition on Gender Transformative Education (GTE) is urging immediate action to integrate GTE into Ghana’s educational system as a key solution to combat persistent gender disparities.
In a position paper, the coalition emphasizes the importance of addressing harmful stereotypes and power imbalances that limit opportunities for girls, women, and persons with disabilities.
“Gender Transformative Education is the surest way to outsmart gender disparities, create safe environments for all genders, and bring about social justice.”
It also highlights the need for policies that challenge traditional gender norms, underscoring the importance of collaboration among the government, schools, civil society organizations, and communities.
“We must rethink the architecture of our education system to ensure that it is inclusive, responsive, and empowering for all learners.”
“To achieve this goal, it is essential to implement GTE through a comprehensive and coordinated approach that involves government, schools, civil society organizations, and communities.”
They also call for the promotion of leadership for girls and women in communities to drive change.
“GTE should empower girls and women to become leaders and agents of change in their communities.”
The coalition urges policymakers to prioritize GTE, calling on the government to develop and implement policies that support GTE and allocate adequate resources to its execution, as well as provide teacher training and foster partnerships between various stakeholders.
