Professional Tennis player Samuel Nyamekye has revealed that his Tennis Professionals of Ghana (TPG) tour 2 championship appearance is up in the air as his participation is likely doubtful.

Nyamekye has had a rough patch in the TPG tours recently, with his best run dated as far back as 2019, when he finished as runner-up to the number one seed Johnson Acquah.

In an exclusive interview with UniversSports, the former top 10 ranked player sighted the unavailability of his coach as the main reason for being doubtful for the Tour.

“I can not confirm whether I will take part in the TPG Tour 2 or not since I have been absent from tournaments over a year now. At the moment, I am just trying to prepare myself and stay fit and moreover my coach is not around so I am not training. I have a club I am playing with but it is just to stay fit as I am not involved in any vigorous training. And even if I try to make a comeback in this Tour 2, I might not go past the second round or quarter finals.

I was previously ranked number 9 in the country, but I have dropped drastically due to my inactiveness. Last time I checked out the rankings I had fell to 14th place but can’t tell my position now”, he said.

The TPG Tour 2 is scheduled to take place on 13th March 2023.
