The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the Teacher Licensure Exams will be cancelled to make way for a more comprehensive and practical method of assessing teacher readiness.
In a media engagement today, Haruna Iddrisu emphasised that the final round of the exams will conclude by the 30th of August, with no further examinations allowed beyond that date.
“There is still the vexed matter of teacher licensure exams. The last of it must be concluded no later than the 30th of August. If there is a final opportunity for those who sat and could not make it, that process should not go beyond the 30th of August.”
He further assured that a more comprehensive model will replace the current system, placing greater emphasis on practical experience and real-world teaching skills.
“This new model, which will guide the future of teacher licensure, goes beyond solely paper-based exams.”
“It includes continuous assessment, supervised practicum, structured evaluations, and formal mentorship programs ensuring that newly trained teachers demonstrate not just theoretical knowledge, but real classroom competence”, he said.
