The Black stars of Ghana are set to take on the Lone Stars of Liberia in a friendly encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium today, on September 12.

The Black stars will be beaming with confidence ahead of their clash against the men from Monrovia; Ghana rallied back from a goal to edge Central African Republic (CAR) by 2-1 last Thursday at the Baba Yara Sports stadium with strikes from Mohammed Kudus and Ernest Nuamah, which were enough to see the Black stars complete a come back.

Meanwhile, the Lonestars were scheduled to take on North African and World Cup semi-finalist Morocco on Saturday as part of the qualifying fixtures for the 2024 African cup of nations (AFCON).

The outcome of the encounter matters little as the fixture is seen as a dead rubber tie with Morocco and South Africa having already advanced from group K in the qualifiers and Liberia finishing bottom of the group after Zimbabwe pulled out of the competition. Simultaneously, the encounter was called off due to an earthquake on Friday, September 8th, which saw thousands of people lose their lives in the city of Marrakech, Morocco.

Coach of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton will have to do without the services of Left backs’ Baba Abdul Rahman and Gideon Mensah as the pair have pulled out of the squad after sustaining injuries.

This provides a window of opportunity for fringe players to make their mark as well debutants to don the famous white attire. From a tactical point, it is the perfect time to look for the needed balance, cohesion and dynamisim amongst the squad’s members.
