Manchester City have secured the first domestic trophy of the season after a 2–0 victory over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
Academy graduate Nico O’Reilly was the hero for City, scoring twice within four minutes in the second half. The 20-year-old opened the scoring in the 59th minute with a header following a costly error by Arsenal goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, before adding a second in the 63rd minute to seal the win.
Arsenal created chances but were denied by a resilient City side. Goalkeeper James Trafford produced a crucial triple save early in the first half to keep out efforts from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka, while Gabriel Jesus hit the crossbar late on as the Gunners searched for a way back into the game.
The victory marks Manchester City’s ninth League Cup title and a record fifth triumph in the competition for manager Pep Guardiola.
Attention now turns to the Premier League title race, where Arsenal lead the standings on 70 points from 31 matches, with Manchester City in second on 61 points and a game in hand.
The two sides are set to meet again on April 19 at the Etihad Stadium in what could prove to be a decisive encounter in the title race.
