Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has charged the hall management and alumni of the Mensah Sarbah hall to ensure that the hall continues to be a nursery for leadership.

Dr. Bawumia was speaking at the 60th anniversary launch of the Mensah Sarbah Hall on the theme, “Reengineering Quality Residential Services: Adopting Technology, Embracing Partnerships” and the unveiling of the new John Mensah Sarbah statue in the University of Ghana on Friday, 17th February, 2023.

Considering the many distinguished alumni the hall had produced in the past 60 years, Dr. Bawumia, urged them to continue to pave way for younger ones, and set a good example for of them.

“I urge Sarbah Hall on the occasion of your 60th anniversary, to continue to be a nursery for leadership, considering the several distinguished alumni you have produced for the past 60years. Continue to pave way for younger ones and set a good example for the next generation of students.”

While highlighting the contributions of John Mensah Sarbah, Dr. Bawumia noted that there was one guiding principle of Sarbah that had personally impacted his life and that of the government. He pointed out that Sarbah’s commitment to the ideal of thinking ahead, which was the motto he used when he founded Mfantsipim in 1876, should be relevant to all institutions of learning and governance.

“The motto was, ‘think and look ahead – Dwen hw3 kan’, a government and its people should always think ahead of their time and look into the future. This is a vision that has shaped my own personality, compelling us all to play our own part in building institutions that generate new thinking, new ideas, modernizing political and economic governance.”
