John Dramani Mahama, the flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reiterated his party’s dedication to advancing women’s rights in Ghana.
During the launch of the NDC’s Women’s Manifesto at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on September 30, 2024, Mahama detailed legislative plans aimed at enhancing protections for women and other vulnerable groups.
He announced, “We will pass the Property Rights of Spouses Bill, the Domestic Workers Bill, and the Intestate Succession Amendment Bill, further solidifying women’s rights and protections.”
Mahama underscored the urgent need for laws to protect domestic workers—many of whom are women—who often endure exploitation and mistreatment.
Mahama’s address reinforced the NDC’s commitment to reducing gender disparities and promoting women’s empowerment and legal protection. Through these proposed measures, he envisions creating a more equitable society that prioritizes the rights and welfare of women and other vulnerable populations in Ghana.
