Former President John Dramani Mahama has vowed to significantly increase women’s representation in Parliament, district assemblies, and other leadership roles across Ghana if elected in the upcoming December elections.
At the launch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Women’s Manifesto on September 30, Mahama stressed that gender equality in leadership is not just a moral imperative but also crucial for maximizing Ghana’s human resources.
“We will increase women’s representation in Parliament, district assemblies, and leadership roles across all sectors. This is not only the right thing to do but also vital for harnessing the best of Ghana’s human resources,” he stated.
In addition to his commitment to women’s representation, Mahama pledged to implement the Affirmative Action Act of 2024, a landmark piece of legislation aimed at empowering women in political spaces. His promises reflect a broader vision of inclusivity and equality, with the goal of ensuring that women’s voices are more prominent in decision-making processes nationwide.
