Ghanaian forward Abdul Fatawu Issahaku walked away with Leicester City’s Men’s Young Player of the Year accolade on Tuesday night’s award gala at the King Power Stadium.
In an unforgettable week for the young Ghanaian forward, who aided his team back into the English top flight with his first Leicester City hat trick in a 5-0 drubbing of Southampton, has yet again seen a twist as he adds a personal accolade to his remarkable campaign.
The Sporting CP loanee has been an integral part of Enzo Maresca’s Leicester City side, contributing 19 goals en route to securing Premier League qualification for the Foxes.
Issahaku, who has netted 6 times all season and assisted 13 times in the Championship, proved to be the difference-maker for Leicester as his hat trick against Southampton spurred Leicester on after Leeds United capitulated at Queens Park Rangers later in the week to confirm the Foxes Premier League spot.
His stellar contributions all season has been duly acknowledged as he was handed the Leicester City Men’s Young Player of the Year award.
Issahaku, currently on loan from Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon, has a €17m release clause in his contract, which Leicester City—who are battling with profit and sustainability rules— are looking to work around the clock in other to finalise the deal for the young Ghanaian forward.
In the meantime, Leicester City and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku will add the latest personal accolade to their celebrations, after clinching the Championship on Monday night with a 3-0 win over Preston.
The award picked up by the young forward sees him join an illustrious company of past winners, including James Maddison, Harvey Barnes, and Wilfred Ndidi.
However, Issahaku becomes the first Ghanaian to nick the prestigious award since Jeffery Schlupp’s consecutive wins in the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons.
