Accra Hearts of Oak legend Eric Nyarko has criticised the current squad for lacking the commitment needed to represent the club, especially in light of their recent disappointing performances.
In the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season, Accra Hearts of Oak won the league title under head coach Samuel Boadu.
They finished the season with 61 points from 34 matches, four points ahead of their main rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko
Since then, the club has not won the Ghana Premier League again. In the recently ended 2024/25 season, they finished in 3rd place under head coach Aboubakar Ouattara.
Many former players, fans, and supporters have expressed their disappointment with how the club is being managed in recent times.
The club recently announced the signing of Former Black Stars Assistant Coach Maswud Didi Dramani as the club’s new head Coach, the man expected to turn the fortunes of the club around.
Speaking in an interview with Univers Sports, the former midfielder—part of the 2004 CAF Confederation Cup-winning team—attributed the club’s struggles to the players’ lack of dedication on the pitch.
“Commitment: Honestly, it feels like some of the current players aren’t giving their all for the club. Back in our day, we played with real hunger and passion, you could feel the energy and the desire to fight for every ball. But now, when you watch Hearts of Oak play, that same fighting spirit just doesn’t seem to be there,” he said.
Eric Nyarko also pleaded with fans to give the necessary support to the new technical team.
“I have confidence in the new technical team, especially Coach Didi Dramani. I’ve met him personally, and I believe he has what it takes. I don’t know much about his two assistants, but with Dramani leading, I believe things can turn around for the club. I just want to encourage the fans to stay calm and give them their full support,” he concluded.
