Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has refuted claims of his interference with the work of former Black Stars coaches under his tenure.
Okraku clearly stated that he did not meddle in the affairs of Charles Akonnor, Otto Addo, and Chris Hughton at a press conference in Kumasi yesterday.
The FA president also dismissed claims made by former black stars coach Charles Akonnor about interference in national team players selection and call ups.
“I did not interfere in the job of Charles Akonnor, I did not interfere in the work of Otto Addo neither did I interfere in the work of Chris Hughton.
“Whatever we do is on the screens and all of us see it!” Okraku said at a press conference in Kumasi.
Akonnor was the first Black Stars coach appointed in Okraku’s administration, serving from early 2020 until his dismissal in 2021.
He was then replaced by Serbian tactician Milovan Rajevac who got sacked just after three months following Ghana’s group stage exit at AFCON 2021.
Otto Addo was next after several deliberations and managed qualification to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but stepped down after his contract expired, leading to the appointment of Hughton in February 2021.
The black stars were eliminated from the 2023 AFCON, failing to win any of their three group games at the tournament, leading to the dismissal of Chris Hughton.
The search for a new coach for Ghana’s national team has attracted over 600 coaching applicants world wide.
However, the committee set up for the managerial appointment is looking for a coach who is a proven winner, one who aligns with Ghana’s football DNA and possesses a proper coaching philosophy.
Among the applicants are several high-profile coaches, including former Bayern Munich coach Felix Magath, former West Ham coach Nikola Jurcevic, and former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu.
Other notable applicants include former Bibiani Goldstars coach Michael Osei.
The GFA has set a deadline for interested applicants, which has now passed, and the selection process is currently underway.
