Students of Konongo Wesley Senior High School have gone on a rampage, destroying school property over claims that invigilators in the ongoing WASSCE were being overly strict on them during the examinations.

The disturbances saw students pelting teachers and officials with stones and other objects, forcing them to flee for safety.

The rampage began on the night of Sunday, September 7, when the students launched a violent attack on their Senior Housemistress, targeting her residence with stones and other offensive objects.

The unrest was allegedly triggered by complaints from candidates that the school official had made it difficult for them to cheat during the Christian Religious Studies paper.

The onslaught left extensive damage to the Housemistress’s residence, including broken windows and doors, as well as destruction of crops in her garden, in what appeared to be a show of displeasure over her uncompromising stance during the exam.

One teacher who narrated the incident revealed that the Senior Housemistress was the primary target of the attacks. According to him, although the students had taken the paper on Friday, they returned to campus in their uniforms on Sunday to execute the assault.

“A student came to inform us of plans to carry out the attack beforehand, but we could not step in on time because there was a mob of rampaging students at the main gate who threatened to harm us if we interrupted their actions,” the teacher said.

Some persons sustained injuries during the incident and were rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

In a related development, the matter has been reported to the school authorities and the Police for immediate action to identify and bring the offenders to book in accordance with the law.
