Popular Ghanaian blogger, Kobby Kyei calls on government to push for Meta offices in Ghana

Popular Ghanaian blogger Kobby Kyei has appealed to the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon. Sam George, to champion the establishment of Meta offices in Ghana.

In an interview with Doreen Avio on Daybreak Hitz, the influential digital creator highlighted the growing challenges faced by content creators, particularly when dealing with account suspensions, appeals, and other technical issues on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.

Sharing his personal struggles, Kobby Kyei revealed that his accounts were suspended, forcing him into a long and frustrating appeal process without direct support.

“I have issues with my Instagram and my Facebook. They’ve suspended me, and it’s because of something I posted, and I’m still appealing. But imagine if you had physical offices like a Meta office in Ghana, where you can go there to appeal, speak to them,” he explained.

He further stressed that such an initiative would protect and empower Ghana’s fast-growing creator economy, which has become a source of employment for many young people across cities like Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, and Cape Coast.

“Content creators are widely spread in Ghana. Our entreaty to the Communication Minister is that they should make sure some of these offices are available — if not physical offices, at least a dedicated email or contact. Because now, sending emails and not knowing who receives them has become a headache,” he said.

Kobby Kyei underscored the need for stronger structures to safeguard Ghana’s digital landscape, ensuring that creators are not left stranded when issues arise.
