President of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Students’ Representative Council, Frank Owusu, has announced that the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Management is set to build an ultra-modern library with bathrooms.

Speaking on Campus Exclusive, Frank Owusu explained that the project is aimed at improving security of students on campus, especially at night when some of the students leave the library to their various residence.

“Students being attacked at night is usually brought about by the fact that some come to study on campus, and when they are going back to sleep, that’s exactly what happens. The University is having a plan to build an ultra-modern library hall, where there are [bathrooms] within the library. So, the students come to campus to study and the person is late, the person can shower, they can sleep over in the library, and then shower in the morning to go to attend lectures, because most at times people go back at night to their hostels because they have morning lectures.”

Frank Owusu also explained the rationale for the separation of payment of academic and practical fees of specific courses in the school.

According to him, courses that offer practicals such as the Sciences were required to pay their academic fees and practical fees separately, to the University Account and the College Account respectively to explicitly account for them at the administrative level.

“The University brought a policy that they want to separate the [academic] fees of those who are paying other charges, being those who are offering science-related programmes and their programmes require them to do practicals. With their academic fees, they were supposed to pay it into the University’s account and then the practical charges into their college’s account.”
