The Alumni community of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has called upon alleged KNUST alum, Kofi Clement Ohene Asare to withdraw the injunction he filed against the extension of KNUST Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson’s term.

The association expressed its satisfaction with the extension of Prof. Dickson’s term and reiterated its commitment to supporting the university’s management in decisions that promote the institution’s activities.

On June 20, 2024, KNUST officially announced the reappointment of Prof. Dickson as Vice-Chancellor for an additional term. This decision was ratified during the University Council’s 282nd routine meeting, approving the Committee’s proposal to extend her term for another two years, from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2026.

Following this announcement, plaintiff, Kofi Clement Ohene Asare, who claims to be a graduate and alumnus of the university, filed an injunction to stop the extension, alleging procedural discrepancies.

Global President of the Alumni Association, Kwaku Agbesi requested that the plaintiff channel his grievances through the leadership, the primary representative body of the Alumni community.

However, the Alumni Association disowned Kofi Clement Ohene Asare, with the global president clarifying that he is neither a recognized member of any chapter of the association nor a paid-up member, as their findings suggest.

The Alumni Association stands by the decision to extend Prof. Dickson’s term and urges the plaintiff to resolve his concerns through appropriate channels, reinforcing their support for the university’s leadership and future initiatives.
