Global superstar Jennifer Lopez is stepping into uncharted territory with her first-ever movie musical, Kiss of the Spider Woman.
Speaking to E! News, the 56-year-old singer and actress described the opportunity as “fantastic,” admitting that despite her decades-long career in film and music, she had never been offered a role in a musical until now.
“My mother loves musicals, and that’s where my heart always was,” Lopez revealed. “That’s where I got the idea to sing and dance and act — not just do one thing. My voice is more suited to musical theatre than it has ever been to pop music.”
Lopez, who has built a career balancing blockbuster films and chart-topping hits, said she was surprised it took this long to be cast in the genre she’s always admired. “I have never been offered a musical, which is crazy. I think it’s really crazy.”
Kiss of the Spider Woman premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 26, 2025, to mostly positive reviews. The film will hit theatres across the United States on October 10, 2025, with Lionsgate, Roadside Attractions, and LD Entertainment handling distribution.
For Lopez, this role marks a full-circle moment — a chance to finally merge her passions for singing, dancing, and acting in one performance.
