Ghanaian gospel singer Gifty Oppong Adorye, popularly known as Empress Gifty, has taken legal action against Evangelist Patricia Asiedu (widely known as Nana Agradaa), demanding GHS20 million in damages for alleged defamation.

The suit, filed in the High Court and sighted by myjoyonline.com, accuses Nana Agradaa of making a series of damaging and defamatory statements during a live broadcast on May 13, 2025. The broadcast was streamed across multiple social media platforms, including Facebook, TikTok and YouTube.

In the video, Nana Agradaa is alleged to have launched a scathing attack on Empress Gifty, uttering vulgar and unsubstantiated claims in the Twi language. The gospel singer’s legal team says the remarks falsely accused her of prostitution, bestiality, and having extramarital affairs with pastors—allegations they describe as both “malicious and reckless.”

The writ outlines that the defamatory content has since been widely shared across the internet, leading to intense public scrutiny and backlash. Empress Gifty claims the fallout has tarnished her personal and professional reputation, affected her family, particularly her children, who are reportedly being mocked at school, and caused significant financial losses.

One major consequence, her lawyers add, is the disruption of an international music programme scheduled for August 2025, which has been jeopardised by the controversy.

As part of her legal demands, Empress Gifty is not only seeking GHS20 million in damages for libel and slander but also a perpetual injunction to bar Nana Agradaa and her affiliates from making or publishing any further defamatory statements. Additionally, she is asking the court to compel Nana Agradaa to remove all videos and audio recordings containing the offending remarks from all her social media platforms.

The case underscores the growing legal accountability around online speech and the reputational risks faced by public figures in the age of social media.
