The University of Ghana is set to hold its 2025 congregation ceremonies from February 11th to 15th and February 19th to 21st.
As the dates draw closer, prospective graduands are reflecting on the significant efforts and expenses involved in making the occasion memorable.
Speaking to Univers News, a graduand highlighted the financial strain of preparing for the ceremony.
“I’m sewing a shirt that costs 1,200 cedis. Then I need to buy a pair of shoes and sew a sash. For photography, I’m budgeting around 500 cedis. Altogether, my budget is about 2,500 to 3,000 cedis. I think it’s very expensive to prepare for graduation”
Others, however, are opting for a more modest approach due to the financial burden.
“Personally, I don’t think I’m really into this graduation stuff because, up until now, I haven’t even ordered a sash. When you add the cost of a dress, heels, nails, and makeup, it’s just too expensive for me,” another graduand shared.
*”Even though it’s a one-time thing, you really want to make it special. You want to create a memory that lasts forever,”* one graduand remarked.
As the big day approaches, students are finding creative ways to balance their budgets while ensuring the event remains unforgettable.
