Minister of the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed, has disclosed key findings from the 13-member taskforce commissioned by President Mahama to investigate deaths and injuries during the 2020 and 2024 elections.

Speaking at the Information Services Department in Accra, Mr. Mohammed said forensic investigations revealed culpability among some security personnel and private individuals, prompting state actions to hold them accountable.

“The report identifies perpetrators and provides leads for prosecutions. In some cases, compensation packages are being arranged through the Attorney General’s office for affected families,” he stated.

The Minister added that the taskforce recommended compensation for victims of negligence by security officers who violated operational protocols. He also noted ongoing efforts to train security and party agents on peaceful conduct during elections.

“Findings showed some military officers used live ammunition unnecessarily for crowd control. Besides prosecution, training will be organized to ensure restraint during elections,” he said.

Mr. Mohammed assured the government’s commitment to implementing reforms to reduce election-related casualties and protect lives and property. He further promised that remaining issues from the report would be addressed to strengthen public confidence in the rule of law.
