Interior Minister declares March 31, April 1 as public holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr

The Minister for Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has officially declared Monday, March 31, 2025, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as public holidays across Ghana in observance of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Eid-ul-Fitr is an Islamic festival celebrated at the end of Ramadan with prayers, gratitude, charity, and festive meals.

According to a statement from the ministry, Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to fall on either Sunday, March 30, or Monday, March 31, 2025. Since March 30 falls on a Sunday, the government has designated both Monday and Tuesday as public holidays to ensure a smooth and inclusive celebration.

This decision, made in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), has been endorsed by President John Dramani Mahama under an Executive Instrument (E.I.). The government encourages all citizens to observe these holidays as officially declared.

Eid-ul-Fitr is one of Ghana’s most significant religious celebrations, uniting Muslim communities in prayer, feasting, and acts of charity. The declaration of additional public holidays provides an opportunity for all Ghanaians, particularly the Muslim community, to celebrate the occasion in its full grandeur while fostering unity, gratitude, and a shared sense of purpose beyond the festivities.
