The Provost of the College of Education at the University of Ghana, Professor Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe, has emphasised the urgent need for interdisciplinary approaches in addressing contemporary educational challenges, particularly as education becomes increasingly shaped by digital transformation.

Speaking at the opening of the two-day College of Education International Conference, held at the Cedi Conference Centre on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, under the theme “Addressing Contemporary Challenges in Education, Communication, Information and Technology,”  Professor Codjoe noted that issues in these fields can no longer be addressed within single academic disciplines.

“Today’s challenges do not fit neatly into traditional academic boundaries. Interdisciplinarity is no longer optional, it is essential for generating holistic and sustainable solutions,” he stated.

Professor Codjoe further highlighted the need for a new kind of learner who is adaptable and digitally literate.

“As knowledge becomes more dynamic and digital, literacy must extend far beyond reading and writing. Our societies must cultivate adaptable learners who continuously acquire new skills throughout their lives,” he explained.

He added that sustainable progress in education depends on “sound policies, visionary leadership, and strategic investment,” especially as institutions adapt to modern demands.

Calling for a shift in mindset, Professor Cudjoe urged educators and communicators to take an active role in shaping the future.

“As educators and communicators, we stand at the forefront of shaping the future. This conference is therefore a call to think boldly, to challenge existing paradigms, to strengthen global networks, and to create solutions that will equip future generations to thrive in an increasingly digital and interconnected world,” he said.

The conference brought together scholars, researchers, and practitioners from Ghana and beyond to explore key issues in education, communication, and technology, and to promote collaboration across disciplines.
