Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. George Yaw Boakye has commissioned an Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant in Kukuom in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region.

It will be recalled that on September 2020, President Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the commencement of work on the construction of the Kukuom Plant, a project being undertaken by Jospong Group of Companies, in partnership with Government to help find a permanent solution to waste management in the country.

The facility was designed to process a maximum of 1,200 tonnes of waste a day with an employment drive of about 600 people.

Speaking at the Commissioning ceremony, the Ahafo Regional Minister spoke of some of the benefits that the plant would provide for the nation.

”The plant is expected to have multiple benefits, including reducing unemployment, producing agriculture and generating income for individuals who can sell their composts to zoomlion”.

Asunafo South District Chief Executive, Hon. Frank Aduse Poku expressed gratitude for the project as he emphasized on the importance of the project to the community.

He further encouraged members in the community to seize the opportunity for employment with the facility’s drive to reduce unemployment.

”I’m so excited about the project, this facility would be of great importance to the district. I am encouraging individuals who will have the opportunity to work at the facility to make the most of it. The Recycling and Compost Plant will play a crucial role in maintaining a clean environment in the country.”

Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant is a facility established to receive and process solid waste and produce organic manure for agronomic purposes in  the region and plastic pellets as raw material for industries. The facility was also built to effectively manage waste materials in the community.
