Ghanaian hiplife artiste, Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known by his stage name Guru has revealed that he has stayed away from alcohol and smoking throughout his more than 15 years in the music industry.

He emphasized the importance for young people to carefully consider their aspirations before making decisions about drug use.

Guru made the revelation at a seminar organized by some final-year students of the Department of Education at the University of Ghana, on the topic, “Drug Abuse and Its Effects on Student Development.”

Also a UGSRC aspirant for the next academic year, the artiste highlighted the significance of young people prioritizing life’s basics and ethical values when addressing drug abuse decisions.

“We need to understand that you will be taught all kinds of things at home about the realities of life, but the decision-making body is right there in front of you. It’s up to you to decide what to do next. In doing so, you need to understand the fundamentals of life and the aftermath of whatever you are taking. “

Further pointing out that peer influence is a major factor in drug abuse among youth, Guru advised them to understand the consequences of their decisions made in moments of exuberance.

“Most of these students, or our colleagues, who find themselves in drug abuse or drug addiction do so because of the peer pressure and the environment they are in. So, one piece of advice I will give is to understand the aftermath of your decision, whatever you are taking or whatever situation you find yourself in, and to think about whether it will be the best option. Exuberance is there to come and we will meet it, but he choices make will bring you it’s repercussions.”
