The National Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), George Ansong, has clarified that the suspended strike is not over but simply on hold, pending the government’s adherence to agreed timelines.

The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) and the Federation of University Senior Staff Associations of Ghana (FUSSAG) on Monday, October 14, 2024,E suspended their strike, which will take effect Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

The strike was initiated in response to two main grievances: delays in paying the Vehicle Maintenance Allowance and the Off-Campus Allowance. After considerable delays, the government authorised the payment of these allowances.

Speaking to Univers News on the matter, George Ansong emphasized that the strike is not over but merely suspended.

“We are keenly monitoring the agreement we signed with the government. If the timelines we have been given are not followed, then we have no option but to resume the strike.”

He added that the association will continue to keep a close watch on the implementation of the agreements and the actions taken by the government to meet the demands of the SSA-UoG, ensuring that the welfare of university staff remains a priority.
